ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
I have had several opportunities to offer my services to benefit my elementary school, including honoring retiring staff, promoting the learning garden and offering support graphics for fundraisers. I have had the pleasure of contributing my work to help make this school a special place for children to learn and grow. In the process, I hope to have planted a seed in young artists, that they might find their creativity and use it to enrich the lives of others down the road.
TIGER PATCH LEARNING GARDEN
The Tiger Patch logo has an organic flow of hand drawn letterforms with a childlike aesthetic. The logo has been applied to a natural wood sign, to graphics used to promote the garden, and to byproducts sold as fundraisers to keep the learning garden flourishing.
random graphic donations
Below I have included a handful of fun projects. First, is a graduation t-shirt for the 6th grade class. The theme was “Dreams” from Van Halen and the school initials were morphed to mimic the Van Halen logo. Second, the fun and festive invite for the Luau themed party. Third, a parting gift for the beloved Nurse Nancy’s retirement. I created letterforms out of graphic nursing elements, printing each letter on a giant placard. To commemorate her years of service, a photo was taken of the entire student body holding the message above their heads. And to cap the emotional sendoff, the image below was printed, framed and signed. Fourth, these “Shut-off” signs displayed in every classroom, helped the school win a “Green” themed grant from the State of New Jersey.
THEATER SCENERY
An excuse to spend time painting… large scale… and it benefits the students… sign me up! When our school needed some scenery painted for a school production, my kids offered my services. Of course, I welcomed the idea.
WIzard of oz : scenery
My first approach to set decoration was painting theater scenery for a production of the Wizard of Oz. My assignment was the haunted forest and the inside of Dorothy’s home. The kids grew excited watching it all come together over the weeks of preparation. I was thrilled to see how the paintings enhanced the tones of the play and how their amazing performances animated the scenery.
once on this island : scenery
For this show, the deliverables were a back wall, two 8’ x 4’ panels and a tree stand. The stage background was of the island from a distance with a sky that incorporated clouds, birds and a sun/moon, depending on the lighting. The tree stand was constructed by Timbur LLC, a local digital fabricator that handles all types of mediums from high-end woods to synthetic materials.
